Cassius, the Frenchmen Hubert Blanc-Francard and Philippe Cerboneschi, are back
and set to release a fresh new artist album titled 15 Again on the 28th August.
The album's lead single Toop Toop has already undergone five remix works with
the album still awaiting release. It seems the duo is booming their way back
into the scene.
Philippe 'Zdar' Cerboneschi and Hubert Blanc-Francart a.k.a. Boom Bass first
combined forces as La Funk Mob during 1994, releasing two EPs together. Then
Boom Bass worked on French rapper MC Solaar's LP releases, whilst Zdar teamed
with Etienne de CrÚcy, of Super Discount, to release an LP as Motorbass. Only in
1998 they formed Cassius, following in the foot steps of Daft Punk, gaining fame
with their sound combining jazzy hip hop and acidic disco. Many surely remember
them for their debut single; UK club hit Cassius 1999, shortly followed by a
full album.
The characteristic Cassius sound based on strong and fat bass lines, is
something that remains present on the new album; acid bass lines underlying,
rock sounds and pop structured tracks. Happy, jolly sounds, is what the duo
present, which should not be a surprise as the duo's MySpace profile includes
this statement: "2 french friends makin music for living better".
