MUNICIPAL WASTE is a deliberately retro, 80s styled Thrash / Crossover Metal from Richmond, Virginia fronted by ex-BANDANA ASSAULT singer Tony Guardrail. The band, after first performing live on New Year’s Eve of 2001, debuted with an eponymous slime green vinyl 7" EP for Amendment Records prior to cutting a split 7" EP 'Tango And Thrash' with BAD ACID TRIP. Featuring a picture of actor Kurt Russel on the cover, this EP featured songs entirely devoted to plot synopses of Kurt Russel movies. A further shared effort, an album with CRUCIAL UNIT, was delivered on Six Weeks Records during 2002.
MUNICIPAL WASTE signed to Earache Records in May 2004. Drummer Brandon, also operational with Hardcore act DIRECT CONTROL, would be replaced in October by Dave Witte, a scene veteran of acts such as HUMAN REMAINS, ATOMSMASHER, DISCORDANCE AXIS, MELT-BANANA and BURNT BY THE SUN. Witte forged a creative union with Chris Dodge of SPAZZ entitled EAST WEST BLAST TEST, issuing the 2005 album 'Unpopular Music For Popular People'.
MUNICIPAL WASTE's 'Hazardous Mutation' album was recorded in the band's hometown of Richmond by Corey Smoot (a.k.a. Flattus Maximus of GWAR). The band acted as support to CONVERGE's November 2005 US dates allied with THE RED CHORD and DARKEST HOUR. The following month Dave Witte engaged in recording with studio side band BIRDS OF PREY, this project featuring BEATEN BACK TO PURE's Ben Hogg on lead vocals, Erik Larson of ALAMABA THUNDERPUSSY on guitars, Bo Leslie from THROTTLEROD also on guitars and Summer Welch of BARONESS on bass for the album 'Weight Of The Wound'.
European MUNICIPAL WASTE gigs in February 2006 witnessed a road union with BEECHER and LINEA 77. The band toured the USA in March 2006 allied with FACEDOWNINSHIT, RUMPELSTILTSKIN GRINDER and DEADBIRD. Gigs in July were backed by DEADFALL. MUNICIPAL WASTE teamed up with HIRAX, INTO ETERNITY and Germany's DESTRUCTION for a North American tour throughout January and February 2007. The following month the group entered at Planet Z Studios in Hadley, Massachusetts with producer Zeuss to cut new album tracks dubbed The Art Of Partying', wrapping up these sessions in mid-April. THE HAUNTED and MUNICIPAL WASTE teamed up for a European, hitting the UK, Germany, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Switzerland, tour into May. British dates added Swedes WOLF to the billing.
