A respected Hamburg based Power Metal act formed in 1990 by guitarist Martin Christian, PARAGON released their first demo in 1992 titled 'Enter The Crypt' and a further tape a year later 'Maelstrom Of Decline'. Having also contributed one song on the 'Peace Eater Vol. 3' compilation the group released their debut self financed album, 'Into The Black', in 1994 on which new vocalist Kay Carstens - previously with the AC/DC cover band BON SCOTT for six years - appeared for the first time.
The group supported WARPATH, GOREFEST, POLTERGEIST, INCUBATOR and RUMBLE MILITIA and at the end of '94 PARAGON began work on what would become second album 'World Of Sin'. The band at this stage numbered Carstens, Christian, second guitarist Daniel Görner- previously a member of BAD INFLUENCE, bass player Dirk Sturzbecher and drummer Kay Noise. However, in 1996 Christian would put the band on ice for a period. Eventually PARAGON regrouped with Christian convening an all new line up comprising of new faces vocalist Andreas Babuschkin and ex-ENTIRE DEFEAT and EROSION bass player Jan Bünning alongside former personnel drummer Markus Corby and guitarist Claudius Cremer.
In the Autumn of 1997 the band entered the Spiderhouse studios to cut the Harris Johns produced comeback album 'The Final Command'. Signing to the Bossy Ogress label the album, which featured a take on WARRIOR's 'Fighting For The Earth', emerged in August of 1998. Although reviews were laudatory PARAGON could not hook up with any decent tours and so opted for a quick return to the studio in January of 1999. Working with Harris Johns again the band duly delivered the 'Chalice Of Steel' album that year. A bonus track on this album proved to be a rendition of EXCITER's 'Violence And Force'.
The band severed connections with Bossy Ogress and crafted a three track demo comprising of 'Thunderstorm', 'Deathsquad' and 'New Dark Age' in order to locate another label, soon receiving an offer from Hamburg based Remedy Records. 'Steelbound' would be produced by Piet Sielck of IRON SAVIOR. Recording of the drums for this album would be in the capable hands of HELLOWEEN's Markus Großkopf and SHOCK MACHINE's Karsten Kreppert.
Upon release 'Steelbound' became the subject of exemplary reviews from the top German Metal press such as 'Rock Hard' and 'Metal Hammer' magazines. Road work saw the band acting as openers for IRON SAVIOR throughout April and May of 2001 as well as a valuable showing at the 'Wacken Open Air' festival.
PARAGON would retain the successful partnership with Piet Sielck for the May 2002 opus 'Law Of The Blade'. As well as a limited edition vinyl picture disc format Remedy also issued a digipack version with a bonus track, a cover of SAXON's 'To Hell And Back Again'. Live dates had PARAGON as support to both SAXON and VIRGIN STEELE in the summer of 2002. The band donated their version of 'Metal Invader' to an Arise Records HELLOWEEN tribute offering. Hardcore fans would be keen to pick up a 7" single, limited to just 250 copies and comprising 'Eye Of The Storm', the group's cover of SAXON's 'To Hell And Back Again' plus a live version of 'Reign Of Fear' recorded in Barcelona.
PARAGON gained the honours of supporting GAMMA RAY for their October 'Skeletons In The Closet' German tour. Opening up 2003 the band cut a cover version of MANOWAR's 'The Gods Made Heavy Metal' for a Nuclear Blast tribute album. The band's new studio album, 'The Dark Legacy', arrived in July. Japanese versions added two extra tracks in 'Into The Black' and 'Metal Invaders'.
In August the band substituted guitarist Claudius Cremer with Günny 'Gunman' Kruse from the IRON MAIDEN cover band POWERSLAVE. Some unexpected exposure for the band came shortly after as pro-wrestler "Iceman" decided to use PARAGON's track 'Eye Of The Storm' as his main entrance theme.
