Adventurous Finnish Progressive Rock combo FIVE FIFTEEN have been making waves in their homeland for quite some time. The band, who began life as 5:15 in 1984, blend adventurous modern Hard Rock music with infusions of Blues based retro stylings and female lead vocals to create a unique almost Psychedelic sound. During their formative years FIVE FIFTEEN would enter many national band competitions, often competing against the likes of WALTARI and STRATOVARIUS.
FIVE FIFTEEN debuted with the 1990 single 'Nirvana'. Early singles were all recorded with Finnish lyrics up until 1992's 'Sleepwalker'. FIVE FIFTEEN's previous single, 'Kesainen Stadi ('Summer City'), proved a huge hit in Finland climbing to number two in the charts. Quite an achievement for a Jazz Rock parody never intended for release. The band would issue the Hard Rocking 'Sleepwalker' as an antidote for their already established fans.
FIVE FIFTEEN's first full length album, 'Progressive Hardrock Beyond The Mainstream', would herald the arrival of lengthy album titles and include a version of THE BEATLES 'Hey Bulldog'. Sophomore outing 'Psychedelic Singalongs For Stadiums' continued the offbeat covers trend with takes on HEART's 'Love Alive' and 'Cab Driver' originally by LENNY KRAVITZ.
1999's eccentric 'Six Dimensions Of The Electric Camembert' offered keen fans a limited edition double CD set complete with a live album 'No Sleep 'Til The Blue Room', complete with covers of 'Baba O'Riley', 'I Am The Walrus' and 'Pinball Wizard', recorded in Helsinki during 1997 and 1998. Gigging during 1999 found Brian Robertson, ex guitarist with THIN LIZZY, often guesting and this relationship was cemented with a joint Scandinavian tour alongside LOTUS. Both bands sharing Robertson each evening on different sets of THIN LIZZY material.
FIVE FIFTEEN put in a showing at the Mexican 'Baja Prog' festival in February 2000. With the success of their spirited single version of HAWKWIND's classic 'Silver Machine' the band would switch labels to the Swedish Record Heaven label in mid 2000. One of the first fruits of this liaison being the re-issue of 'Six Dimensions Of The Electric Camembert' complete with extra live tracks featuring a guesting Nik Turner of HAWKWIND.
During October 2000 the band lost drummer Janne Sunni. A substitute came in the form of erstwhile CHRISTINE and HAVANA BLACK man Atte 'General' Sarkima. February 2001 had FIVE FIFTEEN's female lead vocalist position change hands to Hanna Wendelin as former incumbent Marika Luiski opted out on maternity leave. FIVE FIFTEEN were back on the live circuit in Scandinavia during July 2002, once again welcoming Brian Robertson back on guitar. FIVE FIFTEEN vocalist Mika Jarvinen also spent time moonlighting in a LED ZEPPELIN / DEEP PURPLE covers band called FAT BULLETS.
In early 2004 the band, promoting the 'The Sensational Five Fifteen' album, once more set out on the road partnered with Brian Robertson. That June Sarkima, as 'Malakias III', had enrolled into the ranks of Black Metal band AJATTARA.
