Alternative Rock outfit POETS OF THE FALL was formulated in Helsinki during 2002 as a trio comprising vocalist / guitarist Mark (a.k.a. Marko Saaresto), guitarist Olli Tukiainen and keyboard player 'Captain' (Markus Kaarlonen). Singles 'Late Goodbye' in June 2004, featured as the closing theme for the 'Max Payne 2' video game, and September 2004's 'Lift', featured in the Futuremark computer programme 3DMark05, preceded the 18th December exclusive download single, 'Maybe Tomorrow Is A Better Day'. In January 2005 the self-produced and self-funded album 'Signs Of Life' scored POETS OF THE FALL massive success in Finland, reaching the number one position in April, surpassing the 30,000 sales marker. The album enjoyed a 56 week stay before it finally dropped out of the chart. For live work the triumvirate was joined by drummer Tapio.
POETS OF THE FALL accumulated a wealth of honours including the 2004 Game Audio Network Guild Awards, held in in San Jose, California, for 'Best Original Vocal Song - Pop', for 'Late Goodbye', Ylex 'Best Finnish Newcomer', Musiikki & Media's 'Newcomer of 2005', two Emma Awards for 'Best Newcomer of the Year' and 'Best Debut Album', plus and the 'Best Finnish Act' at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards.
POETS OF THE FALL performed live outside Finland at the Cologne 'Popkomm' event in Germany in 2005. Second album 'Carnival Of Rust', another number 1, was released in Finland and Sweden in September 2006.
