FROZEN RAIN is the 2004 AOR album project of songwriter Kurt Vereecke. However, the band name FROZEN RAIN had in fact been in use dating back over two decades to 1980. The original band unit saw Vereecke working alongside vocalist Dominique Cano, guitarist Alain Bruyneel, bass player Bart Dezutter with brother Hans Vereecke on the drums. The Vereecke siblings had first got their taste of stage work with formative act NO PROBLEMS. Taking on the FROZEN RAIN title in 1983 the band gigged constantly throughout Belgium but, having issued no product, folded in 1988.
The Vereecke duo's next move was to found AOR act RHYANA in collaboration with Swedish vocalist Timo Hara, guitarist Erik van Bers and bassist Marc Cnudde. This band demoed and put in high profile supports to GOLDEN EARRING. A deal was negotiated with CNR Music but this proposed union then stalled, resulting in the loss of Erik Van Bers. RHYANA persevered, drafting a new lead singer in Philippe Ruysschaert and guitar player Luc Van Thuyne. In this formation RHYANA released a January 1992 single, 'I Have A Dream', on the independent Cobra label. However, Ruysschaert then exited and, after a short period of experimentation with a female singer, the band dissolved.
Kurt Vereecke found a new career composing music and writing music books for schools, his work becoming a staple part of Belgian primary education. Getting back into his own music, Vereecke united with Swedish lyricist Andy Flash to pen new material. This generated the momentum to rekindle the FROZEN RAIN title for an "AOR all star" recording.
Debut album recordings, with Vereecke handling keyboards and drums, would see guest contributions from TOMMY DENANDER of RADIOACTIVE, PRISONER and RAINMAKER amongst many others, Johan Waem of DANZEL and the ZINATRA credited Ollie Oldenburg. Other guest vocalists included D.H.E.W. man Dirk Cauwels, Jo De Boeck of ECHELON and BEYOND THE LABYRINTH, Maurice Saelmans, Peter De Zutter from RENO and Willem Verwoert of SILENT EDGE with additional guitar coming courtesy of Frédéric Ost of ECHELON, Dan Palladino, Luc Van Thuyne, Ward Snauwaert, Sven Bauwens and the AXEL, RUNAWAY and 2ND SKIN credited Frank Deroubaix. Bass would be in the hands of Vincent De Laat with extra keyboards donated by Jurgen Vitrier of ECHELON.
