A French Death Doom Metal band with Gothic influences. The band started life billed as SUPURATION. In this incarnation the group released the 1991 demo 'Sultry Obsession' and two albums, the second, 'Still In The Spheres', including a cover of TEARS FOR FEARS' 'Shout'. The group toured Europe partnered with SUFFOCATION in 1994 prior to recording the 'Anomoly' album. This recording marked a switch in band title to S.U.P. ('Spherical Unit Provided')
In 1995 a limited edition CD emerged (only 500 copies were pressed) entitled '9092' containing a number of tracks previously only released as singles or on compilation albums between 1990 and 1992. The group would tour with Swiss outfit CORONER in early 1996. S.U.P. signed to Holy Records in 1997, commencing this contract with the album 'Room Seven'. February of 1998 saw a re-issue of 'The Cube', re-credited to S.U.P. and adding tracks from the 'Still In The Spheres' outing. Upfront of the 'Chronophobia' album the band would lose the services of bass guitarist Laurent Bessault. Nevertheless the band toured Europe that Winter in union with ANATHEMA and into the Spring of 2000 acoss France partnered with GLOOMY GRIM and DIVISION ALPHA. The revisionism of their back catalogue continued apace with 'Anomoly', the record re-released in 2000 brandishing an array of remixes, acoustic takes and demos.
Such would be the band's influence that Inner Sides Productions released a double CD tribute set 'A Vision Of S.U.P.' artists paying homage included SKELETON CREW, GRIMORIA, CARNIVAL IN COAL, CATACOMB, BLACKLODGE, HYPNOSIS, INNER SOUL, NOMED, AEONS, DIVISION ALPHA, MISANTHROPE and NOCTURNAL FEARS amongst many others. Ludovic Loez would guest on an irreverent cover of GENESIS's 'Mama' included on the CARNIVAL IN COAL 'French Cancan' album of 1999.
S.U.P. issued the CD / DVD live set 'To Live Alone' in 2001 with a new studio album 'Angelus' arriving in 2002.
